The Modern Day Mile Run is a Sprint the Whole Way

Saturday, March 17, 2007

So you are a mile runner and a good one I see and you have potential to be even better. Would you like to run a four-minute mile? Would you like to know how to get that done? Well perhaps I can enlighten you a bit. You see the mile run at the four-minute mile World Class Level is literally a sprint the whole way.

In fact the world was shocked last year when a High School Athlete broke the 4-minute mile. Wow, very impressive. How do I know? Well because I couldn’t do it in high school, although I got close enough to go to the next step. I tried some more in college until I finally ran a 4:01.7 Mile, of course there were conflicting timers that day and another clock had me at 4:00.9, which I like better giving me the opportunity to say I ran a four-minute mile myself in college.

Some people call the mile run a long-distance race, but long about my sophomore year in High School, I realized this was utter hokum indeed. You see if you truly want to compete the mile run is a sprint the whole way. If you want to win all the races you have to treat it as such.

At the College Level, we all knew it was a sprint and laughed at anyone who said otherwise. You get out fast and ramp up to your top speed and then hold it like that for 4-minutes or slightly under and the best man wins.Well let me tell you what my friend the mile-run is no Distance Race and that is Fact.
